The Cooper Residence
1111 N. Water Street, Unit 104, Bay City

Deck the palms. Imagine turning the latch to a bright, tropical getaway on a Key West wharf-side street, and you’ve got the Coopers’ coastal living condo at the Boathouse. When you enter the door, you anticipate Buffett music playing in the background and a pitcher of ice cold cranberry margaritas on the kitchen island. The Coopers’ design goal was to bring a Key West feel and mood north to Bay City with the condo’s laid-back theme. Colors chosen for walls, fabrics and furniture echo a year-round summer mood. Much of the artwork and accessories that create the festive island flare have been collected on annual treks to the Conch Republic. Plantation-style white louvered doors dress custom cabinets in tropical style. Chocolate brown hardwood floors are offset by creamy white woodwork, including 12-inch cove moldings. Ceiling fans that resemble giant palm leaves circle overhead. For the holiday season, tropical flowers and foliage intermingle with traditional Michigan greens -- a slightly different twist to yuletide tradition.
