The
Pinkerton Residence
1111 N. Water Street, Unit 402, Bay
City
The home of Charles A. (Cap) and Wendy
Pinkerton is located on the top floor of
The Boathouse, allowing for 12-foot high
ceilings and natural skylights. The
entry door and canopy are covered in
bronze metals and lead to the
approximately 2900 sq. ft. home and
adjacent 600 sq. ft. terrace. These
curved and angled elements are used
throughout the home to softly separate
spaces with a minimum of walls. The
rosewood cabinetry, mahogany doors and
bamboo flooring are all used with clear
finishes to accent the natural beauty of
each species. The concrete counters and
slate floors provide additional natural
elements and contrast with the richness
and beauty of the various woods. The
depth of color in the materials provides
a soft background to the amazing views
beyond. The master suite introduces
additional woods … sapele and curly
maple combined with an engineered wood
that is made from scrap rosewood,
stacked and sliced to create a very
linear feel. What a great way to use
scrap! The space planning and interior
design is by Freiwald/Staudacher Design
with cabinetry by Designtech and Owens
Cabinets.
