~I really enjoyed performing with the orchestra
under Maestro Flynn's direction, he brought us and the music to
another level of music making. He will be missed.

~I did not know Maestro Flynn personally, but
was so impressed with the way he addressed his audiences. He
was warm, friendly, and had a delightful sense of humor! He
involved his audiences in the concert experience in such a warm
way. As a choral director, my high school students were
privileged to have worked with him in the Honors Chorus. He
will be remembered for sharing his love and enthusiasm for
beautiful music with everyone whose lives were touched.

| ~My sister, a Detroiter, declared the SSBO
superior to the Detroit Symphony, after hearing a concert here last
winter. She and I both thought the difference was that the players
listened to each other intently throughout the performance. It was
almost as though Maestro Flynn got out of the way to let the music
and musicians flourish after preparing them and himself to the
utmost. It was a thrill to sing under his direction, and to
eavesdrop on part of the rehearsal, when the Saginaw Choral Society
performed with SSBO at the Zoo this summer. I can't imagine
another conductor being so happy to direct a full concert on a hot
humid summer evening 20 meters from the cow barn. Another memory
I'll cherish is the first time I met Maestro Flynn at the Red Eye
Coffee Shop. I was trying to sneak in with my dog to grab a quick
cup of coffee to go. He insisted on meeting the dog, shared his
decaf soy latte with him, told me he'd love to be a veterinarian,
and invited the dog to attend any dress rehearsal. He saw the
positives and potential in our community, and took action personally
to move us toward those inspiring visions.

~Patrick seemed to have a way of bringing out
the best in everyone. I took pride in telling my Chicago friends
that our symphony orchestra might be smaller, but that I thought
that it was better! Patrick was so lively and imaginative and
always had time to talk to children. He will be sorely missed. I
am happy that my granddaughters had the privilege to meet him and
enjoy the concerts.

~Patrick encouraged us to dig beyond the
notes, and brought out the emotions in the music and he gave
life to each piece we played. You left us too soon,
Patrick. With
