Saginaw Bay Youth Orchestra
Rehearsals for Winter Semester 2012
Rehearsals are held on Sunday afternoons, beginning January 22nd, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Temple Theatre. Each Sunday, the students will be part of sectional rehearsals and full orchestra rehearsals. There are two snack breaks that offer students time for fellowship.
Concert
Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 7 p.m. Temple Theatre main stage.
Requirements
Musicians are strongly recommended to take private music instruction and highly encouraged to participate in their school instrumental music programs (if available). The Saginaw Bay Youth Orchestra also welcomes home-schooled musicians.
Strings
Any string player, middle school through high school, is encouraged to seek membership in the Saginaw Bay Youth Orchestra. The young musician should be:
- Able to play any major scale (two octaves minimum) up to three sharps or flats
- Studying repertoire of Suzuki Book 3 level or higher
Woodwinds and Brass
To balance the string players, the following limitations are in place for the brass and woodwind membership:
- 2 Flutes (piccolo)
- 2 Oboes
- 2 Clarinets
- 2 Bassoons
- 4 French horns
- 3 Trumpets
- 3 Trombones
- 1 Tuba
High school students receive preference in membership, which may require an audition.
These young musicians should be:
- Able to play any major scale (two octaves minimum) up to three sharps or flats
- Studying repertoire of intermediate difficulty level or higher
Percussion
High school students receive preference in membership, which may require an audition. These young musicians should be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency on the timpani, snare drum and mallet percussion
